- Set up the screen as whatever you want to take a screenshot of
- Hold down the Windows Key and Print Screen on your computer keyboard
- You’ll find a new screenshot in the Pictures folder in your Library
Windows 8
- Set up the screen as whatever you want to take a screenshot of
- Hold down the Windows Key and Print Screen on your computer keyboard
- You’ll find a new screenshot in the Pictures folder in your Library
Windows 7
To capture an active window:
- Press the Alt and PrtScn keys on your computer keyboard
- Open Paint by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, and then clicking Paint
- In Paint, on the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, click Paste
- If you want to resize the image, on the Home tab, in the Image group, click Resize, and enter a new percentage or pixel size
- Click the picture of the Paint button , and then click Save

To capture a snip using Snipping Tool:
- Open Snipping Tool by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Snipping Tool, and then, in the list of results, click Snipping Tool
- Click the arrow next to the New button, select Free-form Snip, Rectangular Snip, Window Snip, or Full-screen Snip from the list, and then select the area of your screen that you want to capture
Windows Vista
- Press the PrtScn button on your computer keyboard
- Click on the Windows start button
- Go to Programs or All Programs, then to Accessories and Click Paint
- Once in Microsoft Paint, click the Edit menu, click Paste
- Click the File menu, select Save As
- Save the file to your desktop so that it's easy to find and name the file
- In the Save as Type drop down menu, select JPEG and Click Save
Windows XP
- Click the window you want to capture and then press the Alt and PrtScn keys on your computer keyboard
- Click Start, click Accessories, and then click Paint
- In the Paint window, click Edit, and then click Paste
- When the image appears in the Paint window, click File, and then click Save As
- In the Save As dialog box and in the File name box, type a name for the screen shot, and then click Save
